The Big Picture 🖼

First, a few weeks ago, I wrote this email about why your core beliefs are so important and shared a few ideas for how to begin changing them.

But beliefs don’t change with one email.

It takes constant work.

Limiting self-beliefs from your past will continue to rear their ugly heads even when you put in the effort daily to build new ones.

Make no mistake:

Most people who struggle with food, diet, exercise, body image, or health are holding onto at least one limiting self-belief, if not several.

This includes you - and me.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5 👦

Today’s topic, as simply as possible:

“You can choose to believe anything about yourself.”

Joseph Campbell tells us that ‘the cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek the most.’

Are any of these beliefs in your cave?

  • "I don’t have time to exercise."

  • "Healthy eating is too expensive."

  • "I’ll never be able to lose weight."

  • "I’m too old to start exercising."

  • "I have bad genes, so I can’t be fit."

  • "I don’t have the willpower to eat healthy."

  • "Exercise is too hard and painful for me."

  • "I’ve tried before, and it didn’t work."

  • "I’m always going to be overweight."

  • "I don’t know how to cook healthy meals."

  • "I can’t stick to a diet."

  • "I’ll never look like those fit people."

  • "I’m too tired to work out."

  • "I can’t resist cravings."

  • "I’ll start next week."

  • "Eating healthy is boring."

  • "I don’t enjoy exercise."

  • "I don’t have the energy to focus on my health."

  • "I’ll never be as healthy as I want."

  • “I don’t deserve what my body wants.”

  • “I won’t get enough to eat.”

  • “I can’t control myself.”

  • “I have to finish everything on my plate (and the table).”

  • "I’m too stressed to take care of my health."
