How To Build Nutritional Wisdom

It's not sexy or flashy.

I spend about five minutes per day on my Instagram feed.

This got me thinking; I told you who I follow on Instagram

… but I didn’t tell you how I educate myself about nutrition.

Until today.

The Big Picture 🖼

Sure, I like a good IG Reel.

But those are just the tip of the tip of the iceberg.

On the other hand, you don’t need to go super deep on every nutritional subtopic.

You only need to know what gets the job done for you.

Which isn’t that deep for most people.

You don’t need to know the mechanics of glycolysis to balance your sugar intake.

We tend to consume too much information, which does not equal wisdom.

If you are genuinely curious about a topic and learning more gives you enjoyment, go for it.

But if all you need to know is how many total grams of fruits & vegetables to eat daily, the answer is about 800.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5 👦

Today’s topic, as simply as possible:

“True learning comes from doing.”

A Real Journal 🔬

This is what the table of contents of one monthly issue of AARR looks like:

It’s highly in-depth and well-cited.

It’s also unnecessary to read unless you:

  • Work in the field, or,

  • Are a complete nutrition nerd.

If either or both is true, you will love AARR!

My Study Guide 📚

These are my primary sources of education, in order:

  1. Self-Experimentation

  2. In Practice With Clients

  3. Books, Journals, or Papers

  4. Courses (I usually take a new course or certification every 1-2 years)

  5. Podcasts

  6. Short Form Content (like Instagram)

Notice how the first two are practical, not in theory.

I love reading, learning, and courses. That’s important.

But if you never experiment or practice anything, what have you learned?

True nutritional wisdom comes from testing what works for you.

You don’t need to read AARR every month or get a Ph.D.

You just need to know enough to stay consistent.

If your Instagram feed is confusing you, get out of it!

Instead, join my free Facebook or LinkedIn group, and we can have a private conversation about how you can achieve nutritional wisdom.
