I have been meditating daily for more than 20 years.

I have practiced in many different styles and done many courses in the most popular apps.

I don’t claim to be an expert, Swami, or Monk.

I can shed some light on common myths and best practices for beginners.

5 Things About Meditation 🧘

Here are a few things you should know about meditation - especially if you’ve never tried it, are skeptical, or haven’t had success sticking with it:

1) Any daily practice is better than none.

As mentioned in the image, 1 minute per day over time really pays back dividends.

2) You don’t need to sit cross-legged.

You can sit in a chair, stand, walk, or even meditate while doing just about anything.

3) You can open your eyes.

In fact, there are many examples when it’s preferred to practice with eyes open.

4) You don’t need complete silence.

I used to meditate on the busy sidewalk of Queens Blvd. in New York during rush hour, under a crowded subway with a cacophony of noises all around me - and these were some of the best sessions I’ve had.

5) You don’t need to pay for a teacher.

Certainly not at first and maybe not ever. I do pay for an app, but there are many free resources available.
