How Many Meals Per Day Should You Eat?

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or more ... ?

By itself, the # of meals you eat per day doesn’t matter that much.

However the # of meals per day that you can consistently stick to and which will help you achieve your goals is much more pertinent.

“But shouldn’t you fast?”

“Aren’t there lots of really smart, fit, and famous people who swear by fasting?”

“Shouldn’t you skip breakfast?”

“Shouldn’t you never eat late?”

“Shouldn’t you have your biggest meal in middle of the day?”

Well, the answer to all of those questions is … YES, to the degree that each one works for you.

There is not 1 meal cadence that works for everyone.

For example, lots of people skip breakfast because someone told them to who would actually benefit from some food earlier in the day.

But they’re often afraid to try breakfast because they either think it will make them gain weight (by way of eating more overall) or because they ‘believe’ that they have to fast for 14 or 16 hours every day.

It really depends.

If skipping breakfast works for you, all good.

Some days, I do.

Here’s how I decide:

→ I like to stay fasted for at least 12 hours.

→ I like to wait until I’m fairly hungry (but not hangry!) to eat when my schedule permits.

→ And, I will often fix breakfast a bit earlier than I ‘need’ to when it will make my work or life schedule work better.

This last criteria is very important!

Don’t constantly disrupt your life just to gain a few more minutes of fasting.

Life is not a fasting competition.

Yes, it’s important not to be eating all the time.

It’s also very important to eat with family and friends.

And, not to drive yourself crazy about it.

There’s a reason why ‘3 meals a day’ works for lots of people …

… because it also works.

Be well,
