You don't have time to lose weight.

You are 100% correct about that.

This is the first time in more than one year that this email has been published after 10 AM EST on Saturday.

It’s not because I didn’t ‘have time’ to finish it sooner.

The Big Picture 🖼

I’ve said this many times:

We can never ‘have’ time.

Lately, I’ve been digging deeper and deeper into this.

These past few weeks, I’ve had conversations with many men.

The #1 reason they all cite why they can’t lose weight right now is because they don’t have time.

But is that true?

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5 👦

Today’s topic, as simply as possible:

“You cannot make time, but you can decide what to do with it.”

You Don’t Need A Gym 💪

Lots of people don’t have time to go to the gym.

Good thing it’s unnecessary.

Here’s one example …

Too Much On Your Plate? 😫

I know this is a tough pill to swallow, but if you’re putting off getting in better shape because you ‘don’t have time right now,’ then you are choosing not to get into better shape.

My emphasis on the word choice may anger or trigger you.

For example, you might say, ‘But Matt, I am completely swamped with work and the kids, plus I’m going through a divorce, plus my mother is sick in the hospital, and I’m responsible for her.

All good. That’s extreme and hypothetical, but plausible. And if I were coaching you, I certainly would not recommend any complicated new programs during a time like this.

But I would seek to guide you to make the choices that you were capable of during a time like this, no matter how small, even if that meant a little more water, a brief walk, or perhaps, on some days, nothing at all.

Framing things as a choice is about taking ownership.

It’s about empowerment.

When you’re brave enough to say, “I chose not to eat healthy today,” you’re much likelier to make a better choice tomorrow.

You do have a lot on your plate.

I don’t doubt that at all.

What I doubt is the mindset that you can’t get healthier right now.

You can.

Believe me.

I’ve done it and coached many very busy people through it.

There’s always a way.

I'll be sure to follow up on this topic next week.

For today, I’m choosing to stop writing and do something else now.
