Why I Gain 2 Or More Pounds After Every Takeout Meal ...

... and what this means for you.

I gain at least two pounds every time I eat out.

Sometimes as much as five pounds!

This is a good thing.

I’ll explain why in

The Big Picture 🖼️

Two of my key concepts are Individuality and The Journey.

No one diet works for everyone, and no one story applies to everyone.

But we can often learn from other diets and stories.

I’m at a point on my fitness Journey that I hope to help you arrive at one day:

My body is like a tuning fork.

I’ve been home-cooking 90% or more of my food consistently for years.

I’m very muscular, lean, and highly active.

I gain or lose weight quickly, which is, in part, genetic.

One oily, salty meal has a noticeable, immediate effect.

Yet, as clear as my body’s signals are today, once they were foggy.

Consistency works in both directions.

Years of eating highly processed foods led me to the point where an individual meal made zero noticeable difference in my health …

… but noticeable does not mean absent.

It just means I was too unhealthy to see day-to-day change happening.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5 👦

Today’s topic, as simply as possible:

“When you cook, you know what’s on your plate.”

Restaurant Tips 🧑‍🍳

This simple graphic …

… is derived from this 2-page Google Doc I created with a complete list of tips for eating out. Enjoy!

Why This Is Good.👌🏼

Gaining weight from eating out is good.

No matter where you are on your Journey.

Non-judgement means there is no failure, only feedback.

You need feedback to grow.

To keep you in check.

You should eat out.

How often?

As often as doing so supports your long-term Vitality.

Long-term Vitality includes physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

That includes having healthy relationships and a social life.

Which means being flexible and indulging sometimes.

Just not at the cost of your overall health and Consistency.

Parting Zen 🧘‍♂️

A simple word, phrase, or thought to take with you:

The more you cook, the more deeply you’ll appreciate and enjoy both cooking and eating out.

Be well,

Coach Matt
